Computers For The Absolute Beginner
A seven week course held through the Antigonish County Recreation Department. This course is intended for the most novice computer user.
Nervous about being online and don’t understand computers? Looking to buy a new PC soon and want to know what to look for? Have a new computer that keeps getting slower?
Covering everything from what you need to know before buying a new computer to how to maintain it, from what hardware is to software, from safely using email to how to protect yourself online, this course aims to equip computer novices with the skills necessary to understand and safely use their computer.
All lessons will be taught using plain language with the use of analogies to ensure that even the most novice user feels comfortable with technical terms and leaves with a sound understanding of how to safely use their computer. This course is designed for people with the most basic of computer knowledge who are looking to improve their comfort level while using computers.

- Parts of a Computer & Maintenance
- Understanding Computer Specifications
- Understanding Software
- Buying a New Computer
- Passwords & Online Banking / Shopping
- Email: the Good, the Dangerous, and Forwards
- Security and Safe Computing
Classes to be held every Thursday night starting in the fall of 2010 (7 weeks)
6-7pm at St. Andrew’s Junior School. Room number to be posted.
Course fee is $70.80 + $9.20 HST ($80.00 total) and includes all seven classes.
Each class is followed by thirty minutes of optional discussion.
Printed and online reference material will be provided for all participants.
